ASET Level 2 Award in Physical Intervention & Restraint Techniques
Incidents of Workplace Violence for civilians are disturbing, and sadly, not uncommon. In every case employers have a duty to assess the level of threat and minimise risk, but the methods of reducing those risks were, until now limited.
The ASET Level 2 Award in Physical Intervention & Restraint Techniques to Disengagement has been mapped across to the new ENTO National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Prevention and Management of Work-related Violence. ENTO have agreed that the award provides some knowledge and understanding as detailed in the NOS.
The Award has been written for the civilian workforce and in particular for the lone-worker. This Award is aimed at workplaces that require both physical intervention and restraint techniques to disengagement. Where restraint is not required, then a separate ASET Award is in development which meets the requirements for physical intervention only.
The development of the Award was not only influenced by the implementation of the NOS, but also by the need to create skills that work with and beyond recognised conflict management techniques. P.I.R.T. teaches the candidate to assess each situation’s level of threat of potential workplace violence and gives them a ‘Toolkit’ of approved techniques should physical intervention or restraint be required.
The techniques contained in the P.I.R.T. ‘Toolkit’ have been designed for use in all incidents where there is a risk of physical violence. The Award is a useful tool that anyone can use to help them assess risk and make them safe and is particularly relevant for the ‘lone-worker’.
Predominantly the target audience for this ASET Award are workers who are required to deliver services on a one-to-one basis with a single customer or to groups of customers e.g.
